Today started like most other days, wake up, cold shower, give Ruben a bottle , head to breakfast and small talk with Jorge the hotel worker who has been very helpful and knows how I like my coffee "cafe con leche"; coffee with milk. The day continued, and then our adoption family across the hall said they got a call from their interpreter telling them to be ready in 30 minutes. They signed their sentencia papers, so I called our interpreter, she called the attorney, and sure enough we got a call saying be in the lobby at 4:00. Tracey, Ruben, and I went down stairs early at a quarter to four. Four came, then 4:15, and at 4:25, I went up to the room to call the interpreter to see where the attorney was. She didn't answer, but when I went down to the lobby there they were. I forget in Colombia, nothing seems to happen on time. Mario was with our attorney Ameida, We walked to the courthouse, then up to the judge's office. The judge had signed earlier in the day, and so we signed, (pictures), then two other ladies and my attorney signed, and that was it. Ruben is officially a Miller... Actually his adoption decree states "Ruben Levi Miller Rongholt", because in Colombia they always put the mothers maiden name and the father's last name. Oh well, I wasn't about to argue. We were getting this part done a week to two weeks ahead of schedule.
Our attorney (blue shirt) has to wait three business days, then next Thursday morning can take a taxi to Terrialta, where Ruben was born and get a birth certificate, then taxi back. Then we can fly to Bogota to finish up early the next week. I'm thinking that we might be home around the 19th or 20th of October. That would be awesome. What a relief to at least get this part behind us. No more signing or legal stuff in Monteria...
Congratulations! You are on the home stretch :) Continuing to pray for you as you wait to head home and be united with the rest of your family.
